Hi all, your board members met last night, Wednesday March 10, to discuss some upcoming things. I’ll get right into it:

1. On Friday March 26 at 7pm, we will be leading the Stations of the Cross in the church. Christina Agustin is coordinating volunteers, so if you would like to help, please get in contact with her, or contact us here: http://www.lukefive.org/contact.

2. At next week’s YAM meeting, we will be holding nominations for the next board. More on that below. Melissa will be leading after that, on the topic “The First Twelve Weeks”, speaking about the spiritual adoption program that we have been involved in for some time now.

If you are interested in nominating yourself for any of the positions and/or have any questions about any of them, please come to next week’s meeting or send us a message and include which position you are interested in and/or have questions about. Here’s what we have planned for the next few months for our young adult group:

October

Oct 3: California Documentary Festival. Meet at 9:40 pm in front of the Empire theatre for the film starting at 10. See Derrick for info.

Oct 10: 40 days for Life. Meet at St Luke’s at 11am to carpool. See Tom for info.

November

Nov 7: Board game night/potluck at the Orlando house. See Tom or Jill for info.

Nov 14, 8am - 1pm: Helping at the Foodbank. See Jackie for info

December

Dec 13:  4th Annual YAM Christmas Caroling at local Nursing Homes, starting at 1:30. See Jackie for info

Dec 15 (tentative): Advent party and sort glove/hats/scarves for Rosemarie Doyle project. See Christina for info.

Fundraiser: “Tom’s Mom’s” greeting card and hot beverage sale. See Tom for more info.

January

Jan 15: Thunder hockey game at Stockton Arena at 7:30 pm. See Steve for info.

Jan 23: Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco.

MINUTES

Board members present: Cristina Delgado, Nancy Barger, Irma Margo, Ferdi Pura, Tom Orlando, and James Garcia

I. Regular Tuesday YAM meetings:

During the board meeting it has been decided that the topic or themes to do in Tuesday meetings are the following:

- Morality (e.g. contraception, stem cells, assisted suicide, abortion, and etc.)

- Theology of the body – web links to books and articles related to this theme will be posted in the lukefive.org web site under Yam Meetings.

- Apologetics – This theme is about charitably defending the faith

- Mass explains – In this theme a presenter will choose one practice in church during mass such as the Eucharist, baptism, readings and etc. and why we do it as Catholics and what is it mean to you.

There will a sign-up sheet on Tuesday meetings for each topics and themes. If any members have questions or concerns fill free to email stlukesyam@catholic.org, make sure the subject of your email is “Tuesday Topics and Themes.”

II. Group meeting room:

The board is also considering getting a new room for Tuesday meetings as the YAM members grow and coordinate with other church groups with other counties and cities. A plan is at work to figure out which room can be use in Saint Luke’s during Tuesday night.

III. Membership Drive:

There will be a YAM membership drive on either the week of Easter or Mid April 2009.

IV. Service events:

We are hoping we can have Nancy Bonnet, a pro-life advocate to talk to the group. It has also been proposed that YAM will hold a “Soup Supper” on March 27th or April 3rd. There will be more announcements about Nancy Bonnet and “Soup Supper” on the lukefive.org under upcoming events.

V. Social Events:

We are planning to have an event we call “Circle of Friends” on May 2009, a social networking event with the purpose of getting to know other young adults from other organizations. Stay tuned about this event as the timeframe nears.

VI. Fundraiser:

The fundraiser will be held on April 25th and 26th. We will sell beef jerkies and snow cones. If you want to help let us know on one of the Tuesday meetings.

I. Meeting topics:

The board and other Yam members present on Saturday night decided that there should be topic lists that members should choose from to present during every Tuesday night meetings rather than picking topics that comes to mind. The following are some of the suggested meeting topics:

- The sacraments

- Theology Books fiction or non-fiction

- Humane Vitae

It is also a good idea to brainstorm more topics during Tuesday meetings to add more topics to the lists.

II. Security:

An idea was presented about having a security person in charge of the website.

III. Improving communications among members:

There is a discussion of coming up with a better way for people to respond to Evites. One idea is to have Evites send a reminder 2 weeks ahead for upcoming events. In addition, we believe that we should send attachments of our calendar in PDF form and post fliers about events in college kiosks’.

IV. Formal events:

Another idea presented is that YAM should plan a formal event once every month.
