St. Luke's Young Adults Ministry | A Christian Young Adults Group Serving Christ Through Catholic Fellowship in California's Central Valley: Stockton, Lodi, Manteca, Tracy, Modesto, Galt, Sacramento, University of the Pacific, CSU Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Delta College

09/09: Board Meeting Recap

  • Elect Officers? Check.
  • Conduct a Board Meeting? Check.
  • Post minutes? Check. See below to read about the work we are doing so you do not have to. (Is it proper to end a sentence with the word “to”? There I go again)

Pro-Life Work:

  1. 40 days for life/Pro-life witness:Done in over 140 cities, and want to spread to Stockton, but it needs a leader here.
  2. Format is generally silent prayer with select trained sidewalk counselors.
  3. May be good to start with current group that prays in front of abortion clinic, which Fr. Matthew and Fr Al Delgado are a part of. Cristina will give Kenny Fr. Al’s (her uncle’s) contact info
  4. Youth group will be having candlelight walk to abortion clinic on 10/19 following the 5:30 Mass, which is open to YAM.

Bulletin Announcements:

  1. We want regular bulletin announcements both at St Luke’s and at other local parishes
  2. At St. Luke, Kathy Hall is the office contact for posting bulletin announcements
  3. Nancy has the contact information for parishes, a draft of an announcement, and notes from her previous efforts to post bulletin announcements at other parishes
  4. In announcements at other parishes, may want to refer to group as just “Young Adult Ministry” or “Stockton Diocese Young Adult Ministry at St Luke” instead of “St Luke’s YAM” so as not to appear to be excluding of members of other parishes.
  5. In our initial attempt to post bulletin announcements, Kenny will contact the following parishes: Presentation, Annunciation, St Edward, St Mary, Good Shepherd (French Camp), and St Anne (Lodi).
  6. If well-received at these parishes, we will contact others in the area.

Finance:

  1. Nancy is to meet with Vicky Kimball [(209) 948-3450 Ext: 17] to discuss adding a YAM branch to the parish account.
  2. Will pass collection bag as needed and do fundraising to raise money.
  3. Fundraiser ideas: Wine tasting event at the parish, screening of one of Kenny’s videos at Empire theater.

Event Ideas:

  1. Wine tasting in Lodi, local sports events (e.g. UOP, etc.), trip to lake Almanor, trip to Oakland to see new Cathedral, Halloween party/join a parish family’s haunted house (if they are having it)
  2. Board game night planned at Tom’s house on Friday, October 3
  3. Cristina to make reservations with Valley Brew for Catholics and Cocktails on 9/19.

Next board meeting: After the 9/16 YAM meeting. It should last about 10 minutes.

I believe in this case “to” is being used as an adverb, not a preposition, so it is acceptable. ;-)
